Royal Thai Art proudly supports and promotes the Young Disabled Artists Community. Today we represent our new emerging, yet a very talented artist. His name is Somchai Noraphet. Even though he is handicapped without hands, yet he has a special gift for creating and drawing art on canvas. Somchai lost his two hands in 2015. During that time he was an iron-smith at a Construction company in Laos. While performing his job on the worksite, he was electrocuted and badly injured. This unfortunate accident caused him to lose his hands forever.
After the accident, he was sent back home to Thailand. It took him two months to recover. In the beginning, he felt disheartened and hopeless. He even thought that his future had come to an end and he felt depressed that he could be a liability to his poor family. Yet, after pulling himself together and got uplifting encouragement from his beloved wife and his mother. His attitude toward life has changed for the better. He realizes that he has to be positive, and be grateful that he is still alive and is surrounded by people who love him very much. Life moves on, and he unmasks his abilities and he found his talent in art. He told himself to keep on fighting for the people that he loves and those who love him. He said to us that
“ You can get discouraged, But don’t let yourself regress”.

Somchai knows he has a love for Thai art and Asian style paintings. As when he used to have two hands, he liked to draw art on paper during his free time. Then, after he lost two hands, he spends his time practicing his art skills and techniques by drawing on canvas with his right arm. He attached a paintbrush to a plastic cylinder from a water bottle. Then, he wears the cylinder when painting art. Drawing and creating artwork is something that he loves to do and it keeps him inspired every day. He pays great attention to details in his artwork. He said it required a lot of focus when creating a painting. But this is the key part that he likes the most as if he feels like he was meditating his mind while performing art.

His most favorite canvas art is this incredible Dragon painting. He featured the golden mighty Chinese dragon holding a pearl in its mouth. With symbolism meaning, the Golden Dragon is a symbol of auspicious power, strength, and good fortune. While the white pearl represents prosperity and wisdom. Therefore, when you see an Asian Dragon Art that has a peal or crystal boll in its claws, it symbolizes wealth and power in Feng Shui. A dragon art painting has become one of the most famous fine art in Asian cultures for a house and office decoration. If you are looking for unique wall art for your home with meaningful symbolism, this original dragon painting by this artist is one of the best additions to the Feng Shui wall decor collection for interior design in the home and office space.
Somchai’s canvas painting is now available to purchase on our website. We hope that his story and the past journey will inspire you and be a great inspiration to never give up in life. Keep on fighting everyone, Life is no limits!
