About this Wat Phra Kaew Painting

Wat Phra Kaew or in another name is the Temple of the Emerald Buddha, located within the proximity of the Grand Palace in the center of Bangkok. It is the most sacred and valued Buddhist temple in Thailand. The official name of the temple is Wat Phra Si Rattana Satsadaram.

The Emerald Buddha inside the temple originated in Thailand since the 15th century. The meditating Buddha statue was made from a large jade stone. Eventually, the statue was brought to Bangkok in 1782, which is the beginning of the Chakri Dynasty. According to the legend, Thai people believe the Emerald Buddha will bring prosperity, and regard it as the protector of the kingdom.
